available cjk bitmap font packages

bitmap fonts can be used with the x11 core font system as well as with xft/fontconfig. but currently only fonts with iso8859-1 and iso10646-1 encoding can be used by xft/fontconfig, i.e. the fonts from efont-unicode are the only ones from the table below which work with xft/fontconfig (see section 5.1.1).

the following table lists the cjk bitmap font packages which are available in addition to the fonts already included in the xfree86 package:

the package efont-unicode contains a very useful set of fonts covering most of unicode including the cjk region. the glyphs in these fonts are designed according to japanese preferences. therefore they may not be optimal for chinese, although they contain all necessary glyphs.
