please use a mirror site close to you (see section 1.1), it will be much faster.
if you are interested in japanese, i recommend to do the installation in japanese, then you will get a few japanese related packages installed automatically. if you don't do want to do the install in japanese, but want some japanese packages, choose ``detailed package selection'' during the install and select some japanese packages. of course you can always add cjk packages later using yast2.

there are subdirectories for different versions and architectures. for example, users of suse linux 7.3-ppc should look here for new packages and updates:
