fonts for x11
this section explains how to use fonts for x11 on suse linux with a focus on cjk and internationalisation.
for further details see also juliusz chroboczek's excellent ``fonts in xfree86'' document.
xfree86 includes two font systems, the old x11 core fonts system (see section 5.1.2 and the newer xft/fontconfig system (see section 5.1.1. xft/fontconfig should be used whenever possible to avoid the shortcomings of the x11 core fonts system.
