scim
scim (``smart common input method platform'') developed by james su comes with input methods for chinese and supports xim.
more information about scim can be found on it's home page at
http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/index.html
basic usage instructions are here:
http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/document.html
scim will be included in suse linux > 8.2. packages for suse linux 8.2 can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-src
to make scim start automatically when your x11 session is started in a simplified chinese locale (i.e. when the effective value of lc_ctype starts with zh_cn), just download the following file
http://www.suse.de/~mfabian/misc/xim
and copy it to ~/.xim (see also 6.1.2).
scim also supports a ``smart chinese pinyin" input method. this input method is not open source but binary rpm-packages can be downloaded from
http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/download.html
the package build for unitedlinux 1.0 also works for suse linux 8.2 and also for sld:
